BURNLEY face a battle to keep hold of striker Steven Fletcher.

Wolves have joined the race for the Scot, and manager Mick McCarthy is keen to pair him up alongside Kevin Doyle next season.

Sources in the Midlands say McCarthy wants to have a striker in place in the next few weeks, but is likely to offer significantly less than the £6 million fee reported in some national newspapers for Fletcher.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle, who signed Fletcher from Hibernian for £3m last summer, is also monitoring the striker’s situation, but he may have to offload some players before he can make a move.

Birmingham are the third club in the running, as boss Alex McLeish is looking to bolster his attack after releasing Chucho Benitez this week.

Fletcher impressed last season, scoring eight goals in the Premier League, and 12 overall.

Burnley will receive parachute payments next season, and are under no pressure to sell any of their players.

Any club will have to bid at least £6m to tempt the Clarets’ board, and much will depend on the player himself.
