Leyland’s South African pro Brett Pelser stands in at Seedhill tomorrow as Colne go to Nelson in the Pendle derby, a game which often produced fireworks.

The sides played each other three times in three days last season with a Friday night Twenty20 followed up by a double header of derbies – and Nelson won that mini-series 2-1.

Nelson also field a sub-pro in the shape of former Enfield paid man Gary Brent, who stands in for the second time in the weekend.

There is another local derby at Dill Hall Lane as Enfield meet Church.

The signs are there that the derby could be a cracker after Enfield’s opening day tie with Rawtenstall and while Church were frustrated by the rain last weekend at Bacup, they have a man in form in the shape of professional Luke Woodcock.

The Kiwi was just 12 runs short of becoming only the sixth man in history to score 1,000 runs in a New Zealand season as he averaged 65.86 in a productive winter.

Burnley and Haslingden meet at Turf Moor, while East Lancashire field West Indian Brenton Parchment in place of Brendan Nash for their game at Rawtenstall.

Bacup go to Todmorden and Rishton face Accrington.

Title favourites Ramsbottom employ the servives of Kendal pro Ross McMillan as they face an impressive-looking Lowerhouse side at Acre Bottom.
