FORMULA Ford racer Ian Parkington made a solid start to his 2010 campaign, finishing fourth in his first race with a new car at Oulton Park.
Although he failed to finish his second race, the Barrowford businessman (below) was happy with his debut in the Royale RP26.
“It was very encouraging, as we weren’t sure just how competitive the new car would be,” said Parkington, who switched from his all-conquering Reynard to contest the Northern Formula Ford Championship’s pre-90 class.
“But we weren’t far off the leaders, and I’m sure there’s plenty more to come from the car as the season develops.”
Parkington was unlucky not to finish race two at the Cheshire circuit.
Dicing for third place, he got pushed out onto the grass at Old Hall and spun. When he restarted, Parkington discovered the throttle was stuck wide open, and had no option to retire.
His next race is back at Oulton Park on May 15.
