OUT of contract Accrington Stanley star Bobby Grant has pledged his future to the club ahead of tonight’s League Two fixture at home to Port Vale.

Supporters have grown concerned that Grant and strike partner Michael Symes, who have 35 goals between them this season, both currently only have deals to the end of the season and could leave in the summer.

Stanley announced their intention to offer both new contracts in January but nothing has yet been agreed.

While Symes could leave on a Bosman free transfer, Stanley would at least be able to command a tribunal fee for Grant because he is under the age of 23.

The 19-year-old, though, has assured supporters that he has no intention of leaving and is keen for the club to finalise a new deal before the end of the season — despite suggestions that higher division clubs could be interested.

“I’d like to stay at Accrington because they’ve given me my chance,” said Grant, who has found the net 17 times during the current campaign having previously scored only one goal since his senior debut in 2007.

“I’m playing well and the gaffer (John Coleman) and Jimmy Bell have given me a chance to become a professional footballer.

“It’s all about just agreeing terms and seeing what happens from there.

“I’ve spoken briefly to the gaffer and we’re just waiting behind the scenes for what they come up with.

“I haven’t really been offered anything yet, it has just been talk and we’ll see where it takes us.

“But I’d like to go up the leagues with Accrington because people at the club have showed a lot of loyalty to me.

“This season I’ve paid them back with goals and I’d like to do a lot more in the future.

“As far as I’m concerned at the moment I’ll be here, but it’s down to what happens behind the scenes.

“It would be nice to get to 20 before the end of this season and hopefully the club will have a contract sorted before then.

“Hopefully I can stay here next season, bang another 20 in and see where I go from there.

“I’ve told the gaffer I’m happy to stay and I’d like to try to get Accrington into League One.”
