OLYMPIAKOS have made Morten Gamst Pedersen top of their summer wanted list but Blackburn Rovers hope the past can still keep the Norwegian at Ewood.

The Greek giants are understood to be determined to land free agent Pedersen this summer, to end 18 months of interest from them, but Rovers are still in negotiations with the midfielder as they attempt to convince him ‘staying put’ would be best for his career.

Olympiakos are believed to be one of several clubs from abroad already to have made contact with Pedersen’s representatives although any Premier League outfit would still need Rovers’ permission before starting talks with the Norwegian.

The Greek outfit would be willing to make him their highest paid player, with figures of £1.5million euros a year being talked about, while Italian clubs Palermo and Fiorentina are also understood to be interested.

Rovers believe though they have made Pedersen an attractive offer and, although they expect the Norwegian to receive more lucrative opportunities elsewhere, hope his attachment to the club can keep him.

Pedersen has made more than 200 appearances for Rovers and could be tempted by the chance to remain in the Premier League for what promises to be the last major contract of his career.

His performances in a more central midfield role have won the Rovers crowd back round, after a couple of quiet seasons saw him receive some criticism from the stand, and Allardyce has already told Pedersen he is still wanted to Ewood Park.

Rovers though are keen for the situation to be sorted as soon as possible and will not be willing to allow the midfielder remain undecided too long after the end of the season.
