STEVEN Reid has insisted he wants to stay with Blackburn Rovers.

The Republic of Ireland international has been a midfield driving force in Blackburn's surge up the Premiership table, to the point where he was recently linked with Manchester United.

But as he approaches the final year of his current contract, the 25-year-old is keen to tie himself to Ewood for longer.

Reid said: "There have been a few whispers that Man United have been watching me recently and if that's true then it's nice to hear.

"I have one year left on my contract so I'd like to sort out my future one way or another soon.

"It's flattering to be linked with other clubs, but I'm also happy here at Blackburn.

"The club has recently begun contract talks with me and I hope to be able to agree a new deal soon."

Rovers chairman John Williams has already revealed that there has been no official interest in Reid, but is keen to secure his signature.

He said: "We're delighted to hear Steven has made a similar statement to us as regards the intention to re-contract him.

"It's not our intention to sell, it's our plan to open talks and sign him."
