THE temptation is strong. Sitting 16 points clear at the top of the Conference, it would be easy for us to think our work is done.

But it isn't. There are 10 games to go, 30 points to play for and we have to stay focused all the way to the finishing line.

From two of our three consecutive away games, though, it's so far, so good.

Crawley was always going to be a tough game, not least because they are fighting for their Conference lives. After all the players were put on the transfer list in the build-up to last Saturday's match, their battle took on extra significance because they had a point to prove.

I have sympathy for their manager, John Hollins, but I think he got the most out of his players for our game and for the first 15 to 20 minutes they dominated.

But we still have this knack of shutting teams out for that opening spell, they blew themselves out and once Gary Roberts scored we didn't really look back.

It gave us something to build on at Aldershot on Tuesday night, although that game was in jeopardy while we were on our way to the ground.

It was a nightmare when we heard about the pitch inspection, but their chairman assured us the pitch was in good condition, and thank goodness it did go ahead.

They were difficult conditions to play in it was hard to run with the ball and pass the ball and it took us about 25 minutes to come to terms with it.

But we said at half-time that once our flair players were on the ball and had time and space, we would cut them apart.

Telling them the Hereford half-time score also spurred them on for the second half.

Hereford did well to come back against Gravesend and Northfleet, especially with 10 men. But imagine the looks on their faces when they came off the pitch and were told our result.

They must have looked at our fixtures and thought we had got a terrible run of away games. But we've only got one way of playing away from home, and that is what's helped us to get maximum points from potentially tricky trips to Crawley and Aldershot.

I said last week that I would settle for seven points from this trio of trips, but a win at Hereford on Saturday would send us 19 points clear.

It's going to be a massive game, and probably a massive crowd to boot. And rest assured the lads won't need any motivating for this one that game will take care of itself.

With nine games to go after that, we're getting very close.

Every goal is precious, every save and every tackle is vital, and every point will take us that bit closer to where we want to be.
