LOOKING at our festive fixtures, having the Southport game postponed was a huge disappointment.

I went along to the ground before the final pitch inspection and I didn't feel the problem they were having was enough to call the game off.

There was one puddle, and by the afternoon it had stopped raining.

I didn't think there was a chance of the game being off, so I was gutted that we didn't get to play.

But from the other festive games that went ahead, I thought they two hard-fought games against Halifax.

I know from speaking to people that opinions were mixed about how we played on Monday but, personally, I thought we were the only team that was trying to win the game.

Halifax scored at a difficult time for them because we were putting them on the back foot.

We've got a lot of forward players, and on Monday we had a total of four centre forwards on the pitch, and two attacking midfielders in Ian Craney and Gary Roberts on the left wing.

Halifax are one of the top teams in the league, and I don't think we got the credit we deserved because we shaded it on chances and on weighted pressure.

Who knows what will lie in store in the coming week, because I believe there are a few players pushing for a place in the first team.

Peter Cavanagh boosted his chances by scoring the equaliser when he came on against Halifax on Monday, while David Brown and Andy Mangan did well when they were introduced. On top of that, Andy Tretton is pushing.
