BLACKBURN Rovers entered the half-time break one goal to the good, courtesy of a fourth-minute David Dunn goal against his old club.
A hopeful ball downfield was controlled well by Nikola Kalinic, who laid it off to Dunn and he fired past Joe Hart into the corner.
Five minutes later and the visitors nearly grabbed a lucky equaliser. James McFaddens shot was deflected goalwards, but Jason Brown did well to palm it round the post.
After this the game didn't live up to the excitement of the first 10 minutes, with chances at goal coming at a premium.
Craig Gardner's effort in the 31st minute the next shot, which blazed high over the bar.
Towards the end of the half, Dunn almost created the hosts' second. Good work on the left gave him the space to cross, and following a scramble in the box Morten Gamst Pedersen just couldn't get the telling touch.
There were no more chances of note as the half came to an end, and Rovers went in one up.
