BLACKBURN Rovers star Keith Andrews takes on Kaka and Robinho tonight as he continues to establish himself on the international scene.

The Irish midfielder – fresh from his penalty strike for Rovers against Liverpool on Sunday – swaps the blue and white halves for green as the Republic face world cup favourites Brazil in a high-profile friendly at the Emirates Stadium.

It is Ireland’s first outing since Thierry Henry’s handball contributed to their defeat in a World Cup play-off against France.

That defeat back in November was particularly felt by a tearful Andrews, who was comforted by Irish captain Robbie Keane at the final whistle.

An appearance against the 2002 World Cup winners Brazil would cap an unforgettable journey for the 29-year-old, who was playing for MK Dons in League One little more than 18 months ago.

In a surprise move, Andrews was brought to Ewood Park in the summer of 2008 but has since become an established member of the Rovers first-team.

The Dubliner landed the first of 12 senior Irish caps in November 2008 and is now considered an integral part of coach Giovanni Trapattoni’s plans as the Italian looks towards the 2012 European Championships qualifying campaign.
