Burnley trailed to Owen Coyle's Bolton at the break ... and also lost two key players through injury.

Coyle saw his side take the lead in the 34th minute thanks to Chung-Yong Lee’s fifth goal of the season.

But Burnley’s hopes were not helped by the fact Graham Alexander and Chris McCann both limped out of the action.

About 5,000 supporters backed Burnley and some abusive chants were aimed at Coyle while one banner stated “He is not the Messiah”.

The game began at a frenetic pace and Burnley won a corner after 10 minutes that was delivered by Graham Alexander. He tried to pick out Chris Eagles but Kevin Davies anticipated the situation and made the clearance.

Two minutes later Burnley were forced to make a change. Kevin McDonald came on for Chris McCann, who had been injured in a collision with Ivan Klasnic.

Alexander then drove in a cross but Michael Duff spooned his effort high and wide.

That was almost Alexander’s last act as he too came off limping in the 16th minute with Martin Paterson stepping off the bench.

Bolton should have taken the lead a minute later when Fabrice Muamba found himself clear on goal after being released by Matt Taylor but he cleared the bar with his effort.

That gave the home side confidence and Carlisle almost sent a header beyond his own goalkeeper Brian Jensen before Gary Cahill sent a header wide from close range.

Burnley hit back and Eagles squandered a glorious chance in the 28th minute when he mishit the rebound after Jussi Jaaskelainen parried Fletcher’s shot from inside the area.

It was an open game and Chung-Yong Lee won the ball off Jensen and it fell to Davies but he steered it wide.

Back came Burnley and Kalvenes’ effort beat Jaaskelainen but finished the wrong side of the post.

Bolton made the breakthrough in the 34th minute with Lee taking advantage of a superb ball from Davies.

He clipped in a shot that hit the underside of the bar and Duff thumped it clear, but referee Martin Atkinson awarded the goal with the ball having clearly crossed the line.

It took Lee’s tally to five and he was troubling Burnley with his pace and movement.

Burnley were keen to get back into the game before the break and Tyrone Mears tried to release Eagles but he had strayed offside.

Then Eagles knocked the ball through to Nugent, only for Jaaskelainen to race off his line and avert the danger.
