MORE details have been revealed about how the alleged plans of Blackburn Rovers and Burnley fans to start derby-day violence were thwarted by police.

Four arrests were made following an incident at the Station Hotel in Cherry Tree, Blackburn, after the game.

Police claim that 17 Burnley fans chanting “Su-Su-Suicide” were “corralled” by mounted officers, dog handlers and other officers as they approached the pub after the game at Ewood Park on October 18.

The officers had been deployed to the area after football intelligence officers noticed that instead of heading into the town centre after the match, fans were moving in ones and twos towards the Station Hotel.

Police resources were directed to the location and after the Burnley fans had been arrested, officers came under attack when bottles and cans were thrown from the beer garden of the pub.

Some fans were told to leave the area and others were arrested at the time.

Further arrests followed and most of the people taken into custody were released on police bail on suspicion of conspiring to commit violent disorder.

Officers said that in general the day had passed peacefully thanks to a major police operation, with the Station pub being the only major incident.

One of the men arrested has now applied for a bail condition banning him from attending football matches to be lifted. But Blackburn magistrates refused.
