Blackburn Rovers to open David Dunn talks

BLACKBURN Rovers have opened contract talks with David Dunn as they bid to secure the long-term future of the Ewood Park favourite.

The in-form midfielder’s current deal expires in the summer but contact has now been made between Rovers and Dunn’s representatives with a view to starting more serious negotiations.

Both parties are believed to be keen to extend Dunn’s time in East Lancashire but, with talks still at a very early stage, neither the player nor the club see any reason to rush the process.

Rovers are hopeful sorting Dunn’s future will be far less complicated with the player himself more than happy with life at Ewood Park.

The 29-year-old’s Rovers’ career was shrouded in uncertainty just this summer after a couple of injury-disrupted seasons limited his impact upon his return from Birmingham City.

A return to fitness and form this campaign though has more than convinced Rovers’ hierarchy, Dunn can be a key figure at Ewood for years to come and will hope to secure his future in the not to distant future.

Great Harwood-born Dunn has already stated he expects to have options, but it is believed the play-maker is keen on agreeing a new deal to keep him at his boyhood club.

He has already bagged six goals in all competitions this campaign, just two shy of his previous Premier League best he set in 2002/03 and 2001/02.

The former England international did once hit 18 goals for Rovers in the Championship in 2000/01, but his recent resurgence has led to calls for his England recall – with his sole England cap to date coming in 2002.

I agree with the team except for Mcarthy. I'd give Kalinic a run out and see what he's made of.

How is Steven Reid getting on at QPR? It wont be long before he is warming up the treatment table again!!

Sorry but McC will be bench warming again, De Santo will keep his place, unfortunately.
I would like to see Kalinic start as De Santo will be gone by Jan and Kalinic will be staying so he needs to get a good run before De Santo leaves then he is not dropped in at the deep end when we fail to get a decent striker in Jan.

Agree apart from Roberts! I would play Kalinic with McCarthy and maybe bring either Di Santo or Roberts on after 70mins. Kalinic needs to play 90 mins and at home to Stoke is a good opportunity. And if none of them perform again then we can always get Heskey in January!

Personally think that we should make the effort for Kalinic tomorrow... get chanting his name... lets see him come on with a bit of confidence and then see what he can do.

As for Dunn, i wouldn't let a few games this season where he has played well dictate a huge pay rise and a nice fat contract.

Stoke tomorrow is a must win, lets get vocal, support the team, and lets see us demolish Stoke City.

...i know its not the argument you are looking for HAC, but Nelsen was outstanding on Wednesday night, and Chimbonda was poor. Likewise Grella started to show what he might be capable of. Just something for you to think about x

Good stuff that contract talks have started. Makes me laugh how some fans said Dunn was finished before the start of the season, how you fools were so wrong.

What is the point of Diouf?

He can't beat a man, can't tackle, can't cross a ball, can't pass the ball, and now he doesn't even wind the opposition up.

Let's get rid in January by dropping him NOW. His ego will demand a move, and good riddance to one of the worst players ever to have worn a Rovers shirt.

I can't believe so many of you pick him in the suggested teams on this site.

Let's get Dunny signed up as quick as possible - he's the only creative player we have, now that Morst has lost the plot.

The get Andrew's out brigade have gone quiet so now we get the "Get Diouff out " brigade.
When will these so called Rovers' fans get it into their thick heads that Big Sam knows what he is doing and will get all the players playing as hHe wants them to.

A Darener - apologies for that, I couldn't resist!! I'm totally with you though, but I think we both realise deep down that the empty heads won't change. Funny how none of them were on here last week after we'd won.

I agree but did you notice that it all changed AFTER Diouf and Pederson went off at half time.

As for ADARWENER, football is all about opinions, but if you think Sam never does anything wrong, well.........

All I asked, was what is the point of Diouf - what does he bring to the team? Can someone please explain that?

Hac’s team isn’t too bad- like the Brown for goalkeeper shout.
.
-Not only is Robbo afraid of crosses(no, he’s not a vampire)now, he doesn’t like shots straight at him-I reckon is mum doesn’t like washing his dirty kit! Brown in give Nelsen & Samba a bl00dy rest from this clown
.
No Nelsen? - sorry that’s a bad shout -Horatio is in the form of his life brimming with confidence after his world cup exploits.
.
Chimbonda deserve another game. Good going forward even though he missed a sitter at Fulham.
.
Di Santo with anyone- my preferred option would be Kalinic.
.
Diouf -no way, terrible at Fulham -deceived everyone at Bolton with two half decent crosses-the sooner he is nowhere near the first team the better.
.

Brown
.
Jacobsen
Samba
Nelsen
Chimbonda

Grella
Nzonzi
Dunn

naa, I'm happy, at least you're not as destructive as normal Marghen! or maybe your plan is to moan about a different player every week now, rather than all at once? Robbo aint world class, but it is ridiculous to suggest he isn't woth his place in the team, and you know it. I'm firmly with the (other) DARENER on this one, thanks for the opinions Marghen, but if its all the same...I'll stick with Sams judgement for the time being, we're not doing too bad!
Hey Marghen, I just looked at your team - it looks pretty rational and well balanced, in my opinion!

Hoilett will leave and go to Germany where he already has a good reputation.
.
It's a nice place to live, the pressure won't be as intense as the Prem, he'll have time to develop and as long he keeps scoring the odd goal, he'll be in demand and have a reasonable career.
.
Wish him well. It'll be an excellent lifestyle change apart from the summer humidity and those f***ing horse flies!!!

Irish knowledge, Edmonton says...
5:41pm Fri 27 Nov 09

Hoilett must be fairly good if a lot of teams want him. I think he should be loaned out for a month like Reid. Rovers seemingly have put a lot of work into him so it would be a shame to lose him. Mayhe he would suit playing against Stoke as they are big and slow at the back and would prefer to have to handle Roberts. My preference though would be Benni and Kalinic tomorrow. Diouf did ok against Bolton when in the centre mid with Dunn on the left, maybe that should be tried.

Its good we are playing 4-4-2 now anway

Get rid of Diouf in January and get his huge wages of the books. He hasn't had a decent game at Ewood yet and was hopeless at the Reebok.Dunny should be offered a new contract on a par with both Diouf and Samba.

Get every penny you can Dunny and ask for 5 year deal!!!!
Your in the best possible position now holding the club to ransom because without you this season they would probably be bottom of the league.
Dont let the club do thier usual "instalments arrangements" when it comes to a new contract, JW is know for his sign now pay later tactics.
