An unfortunate injury to Brian Jensen has gifted Wigan an equaliser in a scrappy game at Turf Moor as the sides go in with a goal apiece.

Burnley grabbed an early goal out of nowhere when a quick Wade Elliott throw-in allowed Robbie Blake to skip past Wigan captain Mario Melchiot and find Steven Fletcher at the far post.

The Scot was at hand to eventually pick up his second Premier League goal after the ball looped up off his trailing leg and into the back of the net off the cross bar.

Wigan, who were caught cold by the goal, looked to bounce back immediately and threatened when Jason Scotland’s trickery got the better of Clarke Carlisle as he laid the ball forward, and when Stephen Jordan’s interception fell to Charle N’Zogbia Jensen was at hand to save smartly.

From the resulting corner the visitors were nearly in once more, but Melchiot’s lunging effort was again well saved by the big Dane.

But Wigan did get themselves back in the game in the eleventh minute when Melchiot’s hopeful ball looked easy enough for Jensen to gather, but as he stretched to collect the ball he picked up an injury and fell to the ground leaving Hugo Rodallega to tap home.

The rest of the action stuttered towards half time with neither side able to really get a foothold on the game and chances were limited.

Referee Lee Mason made himself unpopular with the home support with a string of perceived bad decisions as the Turf Moor crowd’s frustration at their side’s performance manifested itself.

Wigan have looked the more threatening of the two sides and Owen Coyle will be hoping he can shore up his team’s passing play for the second half as he looks to maintain their 100% home record.
