MICHAEL Symes believes strike partner Bobby Grant has the ability to make a real name for himself in the future – but he knows they both have a responsibility to help improve the club’s away form.

The duo have played up front together in the majority of league games this season, with Symes notching four goals and Grant finding the net seven times.

Grant struggled to break into the side for long periods of last season following a knee injury but the 19-year-old has arguably been the club’s best player during the current campaign, scoring a brace on three separate occasions.

But their form – Grant has just two goals away from home, Symes only one – has mirrored the club’s failure to gain as much success on the road as they have down at the Crown Ground.

Symes, who is expected start again when Stanley travel to Rochdale today, said: “The good thing about Bobby is that when he scores one goal, he goes and scores another, which is a good thing.

“His finishes in the last few weeks have been absolutely brilliant.

“If he can just keep it going, he can go far.

“Especially at home, we’ve done well together and scored a lot of goals.

“We just need to keep doing the same sort of thing when we’re away from home, because it starts from the front.

“If me and Bobby are playing well away from home, the rest of the team will follow.”

Stanley will hoping to avoid an awkward reunion with Eric Whalley if Chester join them in the draw for the first round of the FA Cup, which takes place on ITV1 tomorrow at 1pm.

Whalley resigned as Stanley chairman in the summer before joining Chester as director of football.

Meanwhile, boss John Coleman was sent to the stands after only eight minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth after complaining about the booking of Michael Symes.

But the FA have investigated the case and decided only to warn Coleman about his future conduct rather than taking any further action.
