RAY Wilkins believes David Dunn does stand a chance of making the England squad for this summer’s World Cup after identifying the playmaker as Blackburn Rovers’ man to watch.

Chelsea’s assistant boss believes an in-form Rovers will prove a tough test for the title chasers and knows Dunn, who has scored five goals in seven games, will be the visitors’ main attacking threat.

Dunn hasn’t featured for England since his sole appearance in 2002 against Portugal, but as he continues to enjoy a new lease of life in a free role behind a lone striker, the calls for an international recall are growing stronger.

Wilkins said: “They have some quality, Dunn is playing very well indeed. Our own Franco Di Santo won’t be involved, but from our perspective we are looking forward to it.

“Fabio (Capello) probably has his base of who he wants to take to the World Cup and there are definitely places out there for people to grab.

“Dunn is playing some first class football just off the striker, causing havoc and scoring goals, so we need to score goals in South Africa, and if he forces his way through all well and good.

“Sam's sides will always be extremely well organised, they cause massive threats from set plays, so once again we have to be rock solid from set plays and that's the way they will be.”

Meanwhile Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is hoping to be back in the dugout tonight after rushing home to Italy to be with his seriously ill father.

The Italian coach learned that his father Giuseppe, 86, had been taken sick after Chelsea’s 4-0 thrashing of Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Assistant boss Wilkins is confident that Ancelotti will be back in time for the 5.30pm home game with Blackburn in the Barclays Premier League.

”I am sincerely hoping that Carlo will be back,” said Wilkins.”His father is not in the best of condition. I spoke to Carlo on Thursday night and his father was stable, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that he will be back. Carlo will decide who plays.”

Wilkins will take charge of the side against Rovers if Ancelotti remains in Italy as the Blues look to get back to winning ways in the domestic league - backing Frank Lampard to play a major part.

Wilkins said: “We have got a massive game against Blackburn tomorrow and as far as the transfer situation is concerned I am not overly concerned about that.

”Frank Lampard is a world class footballer and when someone who normally scores lots of goals and then doesn’t do so, people keep thinking his form is on the wane.

”But the other things he gives us are his defensive qualities and making of goals.

"I think he’s made more goals this season already than he did last season.

"So his contribution to the team has been first class.

”Frank is always going to score but what else he gives to the team and the club is first class.”
