ACCRINGTON Stanley midfielder Luke Joyce admits it has been hard not to worry about the club’s financial situation as they approach what could yet be their final game tomorrow.

Stanley travel to League Two form side Rochdale in their last fixture before they are due to appear before the High Court on Wednesday, where they may face a winding up order if they cannot pay a £308,000 tax bill.

The club remain confident of meeting the bill but there has not yet been a 100 per cent guarantee that Stanley will still be in existence when their away fixture at Grimsby comes around on October 30.

Like the rest of the squad, Joyce is still optimistic that he will have a job next week but says it is only natural that he has spent moments wondering what he would do if Stanley went bust.

“I try not to think about it too much and from what I’ve read they have said they are confident of keeping the club going,” he said.

“We’ve not heard anything official but things seem to be moving in the right direction.

“When you get home you do think about it, though, and I have spoken to my girlfriend about it. You do worry and wonder how you are going to pay the bills and the mortgage because in a few weeks you could be out of a job.

“If the worst came to the worst, we would want to get three points at Rochdale to give people some happy memories. But hopefully it won’t come to that. I’m sure there will be many more Accrington games to come.

“It will be a tough game at Rochdale but if we can get some results away from home we can push up the table.”

Rochdale are currently third in League Two, while Stanley are 14th with only four points from six away games.
