ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman will greet former goalkeeper Kenny Arthur with a smile at Rochdale tomorrow, but he hopes the Scot will not be wearing the same expression at full time.

Arthur (pictured right) faces Stanley for the first time since opting not to sign a new deal at the Crown Ground in the summer and joining Rochdale instead, worried about how the club’s cash problems would affect his own financial security.

Stanley players have since faced delays for wages, although Rochdale have also been threatened with winding up proceedings this season over unpaid debts.

Arthur’s move did not go down well initially at Stanley, who were upset that the keeper had not at least informed them that he would be leaving.

But friendship has been restored and Coleman responded with typical wit when the subject of tomorrow’s reunion with Arthur was introduced.

Asked whether it would be nice to see him, Coleman quipped: “It would be nice to see him let a few in!

“Kenny was great for us. I’m sure there’ll be a lot of banter and hopefully he’s not going home with a smile on his face.

“He was a great goalie but times move on and our two keepers in the main have performed well this season.

“It was a tall act to follow but they’re knuckling down to it.”

Stanley have lost on all three visits to Spotland since their return to the Football League and Coleman was able, at least for now, to see the lighter side of the fact that Rochdale have been awarded a penalty on each occasion.

“We’ve never had the best of times at Rochdale so hopefully we can get something there,” he said. “We don’t seem to be blessed with luck. I’m not going to say they’re going to get a penalty, even though everyone knows they are!

“We’ll practise trying to save them in training!”
