ACCRINGTON Stanley have warned Morecambe that they are in no rush to sell striker Paul Mullin.

Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy yesterday told the Morecambe club website that he had made ‘a few enquiries’ about the possibility of taking Stanley’s all-time leading goalscoring to Christie Park, adding: “I would like to have him here but we will just have to see if we can agree anything before the transfer deadline.”

But Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell is upset that Morecambe have publicly declared their interest in the 35-year-old striker.

Mullin was left on the bench for Tuesday’s trip to QPR because of a neck injury but is expected to be fit and pushing for a place for Saturday’s home game against Shrewsbury.

Bell said: “If they want him they need to go through the right channels.

“Maybe they have spoken to someone at the club but the only thing I have heard is when they enquired about a loan a couple of weeks ago. We wouldn’t even consider that.

“Possibly they’re getting desperate to bring someone in, but they would need to make us a very good offer.

“Paul is still part of our plans.”

The future of John Mullin, Paul’s younger brother, has also been in doubt but Stanley now hope he will return in four to six weeks.

The midfielder will undergo an operation on a persistent ankle injury but, barring the discovering of further damage during surgery, it seems he may not have to retire in the immediate future.
