BLACKBURN Rovers fans will be moving to a new beat now a drummer has been found.

Scott Cooper, 20, of the Lammack area, debuted as the official new drummer on Saturday’s match 1-1 draw with West Ham.

He replaces Bill Toland, of Huncoat, who entertained the crowds for more than 10 years home and away.

Bill gave up at beginning of the season after developing arthritis in his fingers, hand and shoulder.

Since then many fans believe the atmosphere at Ewood Park has not been as good.

Scott, who first went on a match against QPR with his dad aged two, said: “I started drumming when at the match we won 4-3 against Manchester United in 2006.

“When they scored their last goal, the drummer threw down his drumstick. I picked it up and carried on.

“I’ve known the old drummer, Billy, for a while, so when he gave up because of problems with his hands, I suggested to the club that I would carry on.

“Rovers is one of the most important things in my life and I want to get the atmosphere going.

“We need it more now than ever.”

Scott, who sits on the Blackburn End, has been drumming since he was three-years-old, but has never had a professional lesson.

He said: “When I was little I kept tapping on everything. I think I’ve got some sort of problem!

“What I want to do is pick up on when people start singing and get the beat going so it spreads round.

“And it’s my job to get some energy going if the team aren’t playing too well.

“It is a big responsibility, but I’m really looking forward to it.

“The drumming can hurt your hands. I’ve got scars from drumming against Liverpool - but nothing is going to stop me.”

Unemployed Scott has been given a season ticket by the club so he can attend every match.
