ROQUE Santa Cruz has insisted he is focused on keeping Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League after failing to secure a move to Manchester City.

Although always insisting he was happy with Rovers, Santa Cruz made it clear that he was keen to move to a club with Champions League potential.

A section of the club’s fans briefly turned against the striker, but he will see out the season at Ewood Park after Rovers rejected a number of bids from City during January.

“I am very happy at the club and that is something I have said every time,” he said.

“At the beginning I did hear some people showing that they disagreed but I think people are very jealous about things they like, so I think it showed how much they appreciate me.

“Even though I didn’t like it at that point, I could understand why people weren’t happy.

"But it was also nice to see how people realised what it was about and they tried to make it better again, singing my name again after the first seconds I was on the pitch.

“Even when I was playing in games before the window closed I was working as hard as I always do and always showing that I was focused on what the team was doing.

"For me nothing changed within that time and especially now.

“We have to focus on what we have ahead of us to start getting some points to see ourselves better in the table.”
