BLACKBURN Rovers are set to swoop to strengthen their right hand side – after moving a step closer to adding options on the other flank.

Rovers are expecting to make their first official bid of the January transfer window early this week for a versatile right footer as they continue their efforts of bolstering their survival push.

It is believed to be for a player who Premier League fans will already know well, with Wigan's Ryan Taylor and former Liverpool man Steve Finnan potentially targets.

French international left back Gael Givet meanwhile is due to arrive at Ewood Park in the next couple of days for a medical, with a view to offering him a loan deal until the end of the season.

Givet though has not featured for Marseille this season due to a bust-up with the coach, and will have to prove his fitness to Sam Allardyce before Rovers even consider sealing the switch.

The best Givet could hope for would be a loan deal, to add further cover for Stephen Warnock, with any talk of a permanent switch delayed until the summer.
