BACUP Borough boss Brent Peters is plotting an audacious swoop for former Blackburn Rovers, Burnley and England striker Andy Cole.

Peters has made it known that he’s interested in signing the ex-Manchester United hitman – who scored 229 goals during his illustrious career – and is hoping to set up a meeting soon.

The 37-year-old recently called time on his professional career after leaving Nottingham Forest.

But Peters is hoping to tempt Cole to turn out for the Vodkat League Premier Division side – and he’s confident he can get his man.

He said: “Let’s make one thing clear, this is not pie in the sky.

“I want Andy Cole to replace Tommy Turner and partner Rhodri Giggs up front.

“He will have played with one Giggs at United, I’m hoping to tempt him to play with another one at Bacup.

“I haven’t spoken to him yet but I think if I sit down with him and tell him what I and the club is all about, I am confident I can persuade him to turn out for us.”

Peters has had some success in the past after persuading former Red Devils Ben Thornley and David May to sign for Borough.

And Peters is hoping to pull of another coup.

“People think I’m a bit mad when I say things like this but I’m deadly serious,” he said.

“I just need the opportunity to speak to him. If you don’t ask, you don’t get.

“He’s a human being and he’s given incredible service to the game and I’m sure he would love the chance to put on a pair of football boots again.”
