PAUL Ince insists he won’t pay over the odds for Ghanaian prospect Anthony Annan.
The highly-rated midfielder spent a two-day trial at Blackburn Rovers last week.
But manager Ince admits that, despite being impressed with Annan at their Brockall training ground, he needs more evidence of the 22-year-old to decide on making an offer.
He also needs to assess the true valuation of the Ghana international - who was watched last night by Rovers scouts in Norway, where he turned out for Stabaek against Aalesunds FK.
Annan has been on loan at league leaders Stabaek since March from his club IK Start.
Ince said: “He came to the club for a couple of days, but it wasn’t enough in helping me make a decision and to consider how much we were going to pay for him.
“But he showed in those two days that he’s a very good player. We sent FROM BACK PAGE someone to Norway to have a look at him, and then we’ll make a decision after that.
“I don’t think any manager would sign a player on just two days trial - unless they were Lionel Messi or someone like that!
“We need to look at players. We are not just going to waste money.
“We have come in to the club late and are playing catch-up at the moment.
“We are looking at numerous targets but we are not just going to spend money willy-nilly. It’s got to be on the right people.”
But Ince believes Annan would certainly bolster Rovers' midfield, which has been lacking in depth.
He said: “He’s not just to sit there in midfield, but he’s another addition to our squad.
“We are a little bit light in midfield and that’s one of the areas that we’re looking at.”
