Burnley Women were crowned FAWNL Northern Premier Division Champions on Sunday afternoon, beating Stoke City 3-0 at Turf Moor.

Millie Ravening’s double was accompanied by a further strike from Millie Chandarana on a historic day for the team in front of 1,588 supporters in BB10.

Ross Wallace named an unchanged side to the one that started the 7-0 victory over Hull City last time out, with Claudia Mummery-Walker and Aimee Kelly leading the attacking line.

Brenna McPartlan and Heidi returned to the bench, where they took their places alongside club captain Tilly Wilkes.

It was the visitors who enjoyed a fair share of the possession in the early stages but the tide soon turned.

After Jade Richards’ close-range header was turned behind by Lucy Farrell and Jasmine Matthews was also thwarted, it was 1-0 to the Clarets halfway through the 45.

Thea Paul was adjudged to have been fouled in the area, allowing Ravening to slot her 21st goal of the season into the bottom left corner from the penalty spot.

Wallace’s side doubled their lead before the break when Emma Siddall got to the byline and pulled the ball back for Chandarana, who netted her first Turf Moor goal with a calm finish.

The second half started in an almost identical way to the first, with Stoke applying pressure but unable to test Kirstie Levell.

Ravening then put the result beyond any doubt with another penalty, showing the confidence to put the ball in the same spot as the first.

Wallace turned to his bench on the hour, replacing Charley Docherty and Kelly with McPartlan and Charlie Chadwick respectively.

Chandarana and Mummery-Walker then both hit the bar within 10 seconds of each other and the former was denied by Farrell’s outstretched leg as the Clarets went in search of extra gloss for the scoreline.

A triple change then saw Siddall, Mummery-Walker, and Paul make way for Tilly Wilkes, Heidi, and Naomi Hartley.

There wasn’t much in the way of goal mouth action in the final stages, in truth, with Chandarana coming the closest to making it four with a lobbed finish.

After five minutes of added time, the referee blew her whistle to end an unbeaten league campaign and spark jubilant celebrations on and off the pitch.
