Danny Rohl revealed Sheffield Wednesday targeted Blackburn Rovers' defence and felt they forced the mistakes that helped secure a 3-1 away win.

John Eustace's side conceded three self-inflicted goals at Ewood Park, losing the match and spurning the opportunity to secure mathematical safety.

All three goals came from Blackburn Rovers errors, which Rohl claimed was an area Wednesday targeted before kick-off.

The first was a blocked clearance which Josh Windass punished, whilst the second came from a quick counter-attack after Rovers gave away the ball. However, the third was just a disastrous individual error.

VERDICT: Rovers' Achilles heel underlined by worrying statistics

Reflecting on the match, Rohl highlighted the mistakes he felt his side forced and the number of goals Rovers have conceded this season. He also praised the away supporters, who made the match 'feel like home'.

“To prepare for this game was not the easiest, they played before with a back four always, then a big defeat,” Rohl told The Sheffield Star post-match.

“For me, it was clear that when you beat Leeds away you go with a back five and they did this. I had an idea and that was the reason why we started in front with three guys.

“They had conceded 71 goals. We needed to come here with courage, we could not just come here and try to defend and wait for something to happen. We wanted to come to be active, not to be reactive.

"Before the first goal, we pressed and won the ball. Maybe we were a little bit lucky, but also it was our performance, we forced them into something.”

“The job is not done, we have two more games to go,” he added on the fight for survival.

“We worked hard to get out of the zone and in six months we have tried everything to invest. Today we took the opportunity we had in the last four or five weeks, we didn’t, but today we connected our performance with a good result.

With this mindset, we needed to go and it was a courageous performance from my team. We forced two mistakes, we encouraged them to play football how we wanted to play.

"It was good togetherness on the pitch and off the pitch with our massive supporters. They made an away game into a home game and I give a big thank you to everybody.”
