Scott Wharton left Ewood Park on crutches after a worry-looking injury sustained during Blackburn Rovers' defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

The centre-back was already an injury doubt before the game due to a back spasm but was passed fit to start against the Owls.

Rovers lost the game 3-1 after two quickfire second-half goals and to make matters worse, Wharton had to be helped off the field with a conferencing blow to the knee.

The defender went down writhing in pain immediately after a clash and couldn't walk off the pitch unaided.

Eustace didn't have much information after the match but revealed the defender is already on crutches and will be scanned in the coming days to reveal the extent of the issue.

"Scott is on crutches at the moment, we will have to have a look at that," Eustace.

"He took a bad kick to his leg. We'll get him scanned and see what that says."

Rovers are already without John Fleck, Harry Leonard, Arnor Sigurdsson and Ryan Hedges for the remainder of the season. Zak Gilsenan is also out and now Wharton's involvement is in major doubt.
