Sam Szmodics missed out on Championship Player of the Season but was named in the Team of the Season at the EFL awards on Sunday night.

The league's top-scorer has 24 goals this season, having become the first Blackburn Rovers player to net 30 in a season since Alan Shearer at Leeds United on Saturday.

Despite that remarkable feat, the Whites' Crysencio Summerville pipped him and Leicester City's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to the gong.

Szmodics was, at least, named in the Team of the Season. That was the very least he deserved to recognise what has been a remarkable campaign.

Leeds winger Summerville described the Rovers star as a 'killer' speaking about the award shortly after.

“Sammie Szmodics, we played him on the weekend, he made his 30th goal," he said.

"Very great, his season has been great, very good goals, he's just a killer. Dewsbury-Hall very good player as well in midfield for Leicester. I want to wish them all the best for the rest of the season and may the best win.”

The full Championship Team of the Season was: Mads Hermansen (Leicester); Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton), Ethan Ampadu (Leeds), Jacob Greaves (Hull City), Leif Davis (Ipswich Town); Gabriel Sara (Norwich City), Dewsbury Hall (Leicester); Morgan Whittaker (Plymouth Argyle), Szmodics (Rovers), Summerville (Leeds); Georginio Rutter (Leeds).

Elsewhere, Blackburn Rovers also scooped up the 'Fan Engagement Award' for their work with the 'Fans' Takeover' at Christmas where more than £3,000 was raised.

The club teamed up with volunteering supporters' groups Rovers Chat, BRFCS, Proud Rovers, 4000 holes, Rovers SAS, Her Game Too, Rovers Disabled Supporters, the Fans' Forum and the Rovers Trust, in a bid to boost attendance, increase fan engagement and raise money for the Community Trust against Watford last December.
