John Eustace has confirmed Semir Telalovic and Zak Gilsenan missed out due to illness and injury against Bristol City.

Rovers named 16-year-old striker Igor Tyjon on the bench with Telalovic absent from the squad that lost 5-0 at Ashton Gate.

With Ryan Hedges injured, Rovers named four defenders on the bench, including three centre-backs. Gilsenan was a surprise absentee with supporters keen to see him given a chance in the first team.

However, Eustace confirmed that Gilsenan has an ankle injury. It's understood the Republic of Ireland youth international rolled it recently and that ruled him out of contention.

Telalovic, meanwhile, was ill, further limiting Eustace's options to make attacking changes from the bench at Bristol City. Neither player is expected to be available to face Leeds United on Saturday.

"They're both injured, unfortunately," Eustace told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"One is sick and one has a poorly ankle. I don't think so, no (have a chance for the weekend)."

Gilsenan has been in fantastic form for the Under-21s, scoring 11 goals in his last eight matches. When he is fit again, fans will be hopeful of seeing him feature with Hedges out for the remainder of the season.

Rovers will also have to check on Scott Wharton before the weekend after he went off at half-time after a back spasm.
