Dilan Markanday wants to seize the opportunity in front of him and show Blackburn Rovers fans why they signed him from Tottenham Hotspur.

The talented winger has not had it easy since uprooting from North London and move to Ewood Park. A serious hamstring injury on debut 27 months ago was a painful way for Markanday to start life in Lancashire.

In the 18 months that followed under Jon Dahl Tomasson, Markanday was unable to establish himself as a regular starter. He often impressed in the cups but that didn't translate into the Championship with opportunities limited.

A loan to Aberdeen proved a disaster 12 months ago and Markanday's Rovers' career is approaching a T-junction. The arrival of John Eustace has wiped the slate clean.

With Ryan Hedges out for the season, there is an opportunity he can't let pass him by. Markanday looks poised for his first league start since Hull City in December after two impressive displays off the bench.

Markanday wants to prove his worth to the Rovers fans, insisting there is plenty more to come from him.

"I've been happy to get the minutes, I want to keep playing," Markanday told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"Every player says that they need a run of games. That's football, that's no different for me. First-team football has been a bit hard for me to come by recently.

"I can't use that as an excuse to say that's why I haven't played well here or there. I get on with it and do what I can when I'm called on.

"I have done well in the cup games when I've played. I want to play and score goals in every game.

"It's about making sure I do that. I've definitely got a lot more to show. I know what sort of player I can be. The player Blackburn bought from Tottenham.

"I want to be the kid that plays in the playground, I want that feeling. I don't want to be down on myself or for things to be on my mind, 'can I do this, or do I need to do that?'

"I hope that comes in the future. Everyone is a confident player, it's massive. For me, knowing I can go out and show my best attributes, getting at my man and dribbling.

"I want to get shots off, be creative. It's always nice to be able to feel that. The gaffer here has given me license to show what I can do.

"There is a big opportunity for me. I'm gutted for Ryan (Hedges) because he worked so hard to come back from the last injury. But he's out so I have to do myself to fill in and keep the shirt into next season as well too."

Bristol City are tough but beatable opposition on Wednesday night. One more job might finish the job for Rovers and complete the task Eustace was set when he arrived.

Markanday is confident the team will get over the line and can return from Bristol with a positive result.

"He's installed a good togetherness in the team, working for each other," he said on Eustace.

"He's brought a lot to the club already. With more time, hopefully, he keep doing that and we'll keep improving.

"We all know our jobs, training, meetings. We know we have to be ready when we're called upon if we're on the bench, as I was on Saturday.

"You have to be ready to do a job for the team. All the attacking players want freedom. As a player, you want to be told to get at my man, get shots off.

"It feels good to hear that. I know I can do that. You need that support behind you to show your best football.

"We're feeling positive about tomorrow. We could've won the game against Southampton and shows the direction we're going in.

"We want to get three points but there were positives. Bristol City are a good team, if we don't have the ball we'll be solid and compact and then show our quality."
