John Eustace believes Blackburn Rovers are starting to develop into a team in his image but insisted they are 'nowhere near' where the team wants to be.

Performances have been far improved in recent weeks after Eustace has been able to work with the group on the training pitch. It was a baptism of fire for the head coach to start with, playing nine games in 28 days.

However, they've had free weeks and the international break to get more ideas into the players as Eustace looks to imprint his philosophy on the group. It's little coincidence that their best three Championship displays have followed in that period.

Unlocking the attack has been crucial. Although they failed to score against Middlesbrough or Ipswich Town, the addition of a fourth attacker, moving from 3-4-3 to 4-2-3-1, has been a game-changer in attack.

Eustace wants more victories to ensure Rovers secure their Championship status and whilst he can see improvement, he remains hungry and ambitious to develop the team further.

"It has been a confidence-booster, we're here to win games," Eustace told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"The performances overall I think have been very solid, we could've had more wins, so to get those three points was a magnificent effort from the squad.

"I was really pleased for them more than anything because they have put in so much effort on the training field. They were all delighted with the results.

"I want my teams to be competitive, good without the football and good with it. I want us to do both sides.

"In the time I've been here, we have done that in spells. On Monday, we did it for nearly the whole 90 minutes. The first 10/15 minutes was tough but we stuck in there.

"We defended well and then we controlled the game with and without the ball. That's what I want my teams to do.

"It's about adapting to the opposition as well, those are the game plans we have. We are focused on what we want to do but we look at putting the right team and formation that gives us a chance for three points.

"Since we went to a back four we have looked very good offensively and defensively we've been sold as well. I've been very pleased with that.

"We have wonderful players here, it was the first time we've been able to get that front four all together as well. Having Joe (Rankin-Costello) back in midfield with Sonny (Tronstad), it's a lovely partnership there.

"We have good competition for places. We have to keep building and believing no matter what happens in the last six, there will be tough moments. We have to stick together.

"We aren't anywhere near where we want to be, we don't have enough points. We will work hard to do that."

"I think the 12 games, including the cup game, we've lost three times, stopped conceding goals," Eustace added.

"The set-pieces against have been excellent. There have been lots of improvements over the last eight or nine weeks. Of course, we wanted more wins but it's very important to keep picking points up and getting the squad fit.

"We had nine games in 28 days where it was very difficult to do any work, we had to get organised and the team adapted to what we wanted.

"We have six huge games coming up, playing three of the top teams, and we'll adapt to who we are playing against and be competitive.

"I'm not looking at where we are, I just focus on the next game and pick up points. We have a points tally we want to get to, we want to win as many games as possible and that's all I am focused on at the moment."
