Maceo Rigters' agent, Frank Schouten, is planning to hold talks with Blackburn Rovers about the possibility of the Dutchman going out on loan to gain some first-team experience.
Hughes appeared to rule out that possibility before the 4-1 defeat to Coventry at the weekend.
But he may change his mind after the young striker looked off the pace against the Sky Blues.
Schouten said: "We have a meeting on Tuesday or Wednesday with chairman John Williams and we hope to hear then about Maceo Rigters's status."
