BURNLEY manager Owen Coyle is determined to resist any approach for his players, insisting: "I'm trying to build a team, not dismantle one."

Leading scorer Andy Gray is believed to be a target for Charlton Athletic, with manager Alan Pardew a big admirer of the 13-goal striker.

Meanwhile interest in Northern Ireland international Kyle Lafferty is expected to resurface with bids from Celtic, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham having been rejected in previous transfer windows.

As yet, the Clarets have not received an official approach from any club for any member of their squad.

And that's the way Coyle wants it to stay throughout the January window.

"There is always going to be interest in your players because there are some good ones, but we don't want to be losing them," stressed the Burnley boss.

"Andy Gray is a valuable member of the side and we're not encouraging any bids or offers for him.

"What's going to happen at this stage of the season is that there will be speculation about players at other clubs or your own players.

"But I'm looking to build a team, not dismantle one.

"There will be times that players leave for whatever reason, but we are looking to keep our best players at our football club.

"Sometimes people come in with an unbelievable offer that you have to consider, but until such time as somebody makes a bid for one of your players, there isn't a story.

"There is no bid from Charlton."

That could change this week, however, with Pardew set to meet with his board of directors on Thursday to discuss potential transfer targets.

Cardiff were also said to be keen on Gray, but manager Dave Jones isn't expecting to make any January signings after being told he must sell before he can buy, as the club faces a £30million lawsuit.
