ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman has described his side's defending against Chester City as "diabolical".

Record signing Ian Craney scored one and made another two, but it was not enough for the Reds as they were held to a 3-3 League Two draw by City at the Fraser Eagle Stadium on Saturday.

And the Reds manager vowed to crack the whip this week in a desperate bid to solve the problems at the back that are threatening to undermine their season.

Stanley had to initially come from behind against Bobby Williamson's side, following Chris Holroyd's early strike for the visitors.

But they subsequently found themselves ahead in the match twice, before being pegged back in what was a six-goal thriller.

Coleman said: "When you concede three goals at home you don't deserve anything. That defending was absolutely diabolical.

"If we miss chances like we did and give goals away like we did, then we'll never win games at home.

"The holy grail of a clean sheet is a million miles away right now.

"We have to pick them up.

"They'll be in training tomorrow and they'll train every day this week because that performance doesn't deserve a day off."

Chester manager Williamson was encouraged by his side's draw against Stanley.

"We got off to a good start, and created a good goal from a set piece," said Williamson.

"Linwood's got a head on it back across and Holroyd reacted and scored. It was great to get the start we got."

Chester have displayed a frailty when dealing with set-pieces and Williamson was far from impressed that his side were unable to stop Andy Procter's equaliser, and Stanley's third goal from Roscoe Dsane, that were both set up by man-of-the-match Craney.

Williamson added: "We conceded from a set piece, which is bitterly disappointing as this is stuff we work on, but you can only manufacture the best you can and delegate the best you can he said.

"It is up to the players to switch on and make sure their men don't get on the end of things but unfortunately for us it has happened twice today again."
