Captain Saffron Jordan scored twice but Rovers Ladies were denied victory late on in front of a record crowd at Ewood Park.

Jordan’s brace saw Gemma Donnelly’s side come from behind to lead 2-1, only to settle for a point as Coventry United scored an 86th minute equaliser.

The crowd of 966 was the highest for a Rovers Ladies home match as they collected a fourth point of the season, but Jordan felt they deserved more.

“Our first half wasn’t our best performance; I think we were lucky to get an equaliser just before half time but second half we played them off the pitch,” she said.

“We had so many chances and the football we were playing was what we wanted to play. Set pieces again let us down.

“In the end we just switched off and presented them with a goal.”

Coventry took an early lead courtesy of Amber Hughes but trailed to two quickfire goals from the Rovers captain.

However, O’Brien’s late effort secured a point for the visitors who remain behind Rovers on goal difference.

Rovers lost their four opening games since promotion, but ended their wait for a win against title-chasing Durham last time out.

The result leaves Rovers eighth in the table, and Jordan said: “We have a long season to go yet and I’m very confident in our performance and our team and I think we will survive and be looking at mid-table. I don’t think we have relegation worries.

“We knew what was going wrong in the first half and just needed to wake up.

“We forced the ball a lot and just needed to play our football that we’re confident in and that we’re known for.

“It’s a point, a valuable point but could have been more.”

Rovers started the brighter, but it was Coventry who took an 11th minute lead when Hughes slotted the ball beyond Fran Stenson.

Hughes had a second ruled out for offside in the 26th minute in a dominant first half for the visitors.

However, on the stroke of half-time Rovers equalised when Coventry keeper Sue Wood dropped Rhema Lord-Mears’ cross at the feet of Jordan who had the simple task of tapping home two minutes before the break.

Whatever boss Donnelly said at half-time did the trick as the Blues were much improved and took the lead straight from kick-off as Jordan curled the ball into the bottom right corner for her second goal of the game.

Rovers were left to regret missed chances when Coventry substitute O’Brien smashed the ball home from a late corner to level the match.
