WHEN Robbie Blake returned to Burnley in the summer I was absolutely delighted, and now he's starting to show why.

He's quick, and he not only makes his own contribution goal-wise but also creates chances for others. Both of those qualities came to the fore at Hillsborough on Tuesday night to earn another good away win.

As manager Steve Cotterill pointed out, they really were on a hiding to nothing with the run Sheffield Wednesday have been on. But that win certainly shouldn't be underestimated, whatever the circumstances.

And it was great to see Robbie kick-start it all and get his first league goal. The longer the wait, the bigger the hurdle it can become for a striker. But he's over it now and will get the confidence from that to go out and get more.

Chris McCann benefited from his hard work in the second half and it was a tidy finish by the youngster. He is really starting to blossom this season and it's fantastic to see that type of consistency.

Results have blown hot and cold so far this season. Last weekend's draw at home to Blackpool was disappointing, more so for the manner of it.

But it's all part of nurturing the squad and getting players established - like the back four, for example. Defenders have chopped and changed through injuries, departures and arrivals but things are starting to settle down there now.

These things take time. It doesn't happen overnight. It can even take years in some cases.

But, collectively, they will be buoyed by a first clean sheet and will be looking to take that into what promises to be a tough encounter at Bristol City tomorrow, given their impressive start to the Championship season following promotion last term.

As things stand at the moment, though, 10 points from five games, with a game in hand, is not a bad start. We just need to keep it going.
