STEPHEN Ward has returned to Burnley early from international duty as he nurses a foot injury.
The left-back played 61 minutes of Republic of Ireland's 4-1 Nations League defeat to Wales in Cardiff on Thursday night.
Ward won his 50th cap in that fixture but he won't be part of the travelling squad for Tuesday's friendly with Poland in Wroclaw as a result of the foot injury.
The 33-year-old has been struggling with a knock in the early part of Burnley's season and after being withdrawn early in three successive games against Watford, Olympiakos and Fulham, he was only on the bench for last weekend's defeat to Manchester United at Turf Moor.
Kevin Long and Jeff Hendrick remain part of the Republic squad for the friendly in Poland, as does Jonathan Walters, who is now on loan at Ipswich.
