Lewis Travis could be set to stay at Ewood Park after a potential deal to join a League One side didn't materialise.

The midfielder, who has featured in four of Rovers' six matches so far this season, has been interesting a number of clubs, including Bradford City and Fleetwood Town.

The 20-year-old is understood to be keen on a loan move to help further his career.

But an admirer of the box-to-box midfielder, Mowbray is conscious not to leave himself short of options, with Travis having featured in every matchday squad to date.

The signing of Harrison Reed from Southampton last week, and Jacob Davenport nearing full fitness, means Mowbray hasn't ruled out Travis leaving before today's 5pm deadline.

But he said: “There’s lots of people asking me about Trav.

“Yesterday there was a potential he could have gone to a League One club and gone and played some football until January.

“But at this moment in time he looks like he will stay here.

“He’s a young player who has been around our first-team and I’m not in any rush to lose him.

“It’s the other way around, they’re in a rush to go and play football and I think they’re ready in their minds to go and play every Saturday, in front of a crowd, to try and do well in the game and progress their career and come back here as a first-team player ready to go.

“My responsibility is to the football club. While I have always been player orientated and thought about their careers and their career paths, my main thought has to be that we don’t leave ourselves too light with players.

“Yet Trav could argue we’ve brought Davenport in, just signed Harrison Reed, we have Richie, Corry and Benno can play in there, so there’s plenty of options but everything has to be right for the player and the football club and we’ll make those decisions today.”
