Kasey Palmer is going through a learning process during his loan spell at Ewood Park.

That’s the verdict of boss Tony Mowbray who saw the 21-year-old scored the winner against Brentford at the weekend.

It followed up his strike in the Carabao Cup success at Carlisle to make it two goals in four starts after signing on a season-long loan.

This is Palmer’s fourth spell away from his parent club, after time with Derby County and twice joining Huddersfield Town.

Mowbray has encouraged Palmer, who has been used on the wing in his Rovers career so far, to get in the box and score tap-ins and rebounds, as he did on Saturday, while is also looking to improve his positional play.

But the boss was delighted to see him on the scoresheet and feels Palmer is developing his game.

He said: “I think he’s sick of me shouting at him to be honest.

“He needs to learn the positional play when we don’t have the ball, cutting off passing lines, understand that football is not just about being on the ball.

“He’s come from Chelsea where the majority of the time they have the ball.

“I watched them play our Under-23s last week (in a 3-0 win) and they play with the ball so he stands in his position and waits for the ball to come.

“When you’re not playing for a team not technically as good then you have to run and tackle and fight, get back and he’s learning.

“I was pleased he got a goal and they are the things he has to learn to become a better footballer.

“He’s trying to pick up very quickly and was delighted he scored.”
