Tony Mowbray felt Rovers were much more like themselves in the second period but didn’t get to grips with Millwall’s style in the opening 45 minutes.
The visitors, through George Saville and Steve Morison, both hit the post within the opening half an hour as Neil Harris’ side bossed the first half.
But after the break, Rovers built up a momentum had two excellent opportunities to score when Danny Graham went clean through. But Millwall goalkeeper Jordan Archer denied him on both occasions, as well as making a flying save from Joe Rothwell.
It means Rovers have drawn their opening two matches of the Championship season, after being held at Ipswich Town seven days earlier.
“I think ultimately one of frustration on the second half performance,” Mowbray said on his over-riding emotion.
“The first half was a non-event for us really, I think we got “Millwall-ed” in the first half. They get the ball forward, keep it in, put it in your box and slow everything down.
“There’s a slow build up to everything and you have to defend your box. They could have scored a couple of goals, they hit the post twice, and I think Neil (Harris) will be disappointed they didn’t manage to score in the first half.
“We pushed the re-set button, went back to basics at half-time and that was more like us in the second half, we managed to play a lot of the game in their half, were around their box a lot and created some chances.
“We felt we could and should have scored but over the piece they played better in the first half and we played better in the second.
“We will take a point. It would be nice to sat thinking we won a tight game 1-0 but we put the point in the bag and move on, that’s the mentality.”
From a positive perspective Rovers are unbeaten on their Championship return, but ahead of the trip to Hull City, Mowbray knows his side need to record their first three points as soon as possible.
He added: “They finished ninth in the division last season so know how to win football matches.
“Against a team who came up from League One I think they seemed happy to take a point.
“We’re unbeaten but my experience tells me that the longer you go without a win you have to answer the question ‘when are you going to get your first three points?”
“So we have to get that as quickly as we can and that’s what we aim to do.
“Next weekend we go to Hull, have to be really positive and try and win.”
