Rovers are reported to have bid $1.25m for USA international Wil Trapp.

But his club Columbus Crew look set to reject their advances for the 25-year-old who has six caps for his national team.

Their boss, Gregg Berhalter told The Athletic: “There was an offer made and we’ll consider offers.

“But we have a certain valuation for our players, and if these valuations are not met, there’s not going to be an agreement.”

Rovers would likely need at least double the amount of their offer to persuade the MLS side in to a sale.

Trapp has played 143 of the club’s last 146 matches since joining in 2013 and would qualify for a work permit having acquired a Greek passport because of his grandfather.

He has started four of the USA’s last five international fixtures having made his debut against Chile in January 2015.

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has introduced a scouting network at the club, with players from across the globe constantly being studied.

And interest in Trapp is a likely example of that, having been a regular in the MLS, with Columbus currently sitting fourth in the Eastern conference.

Rovers are still looking to make up to four more signings before the end of the month, and while central midfield is not a priority given the options currently available to the manager, the Lancashire Telegraph understands it is a position Mowbray highlighted at the start of the summer as one he would like to strengthen.
