Tony Mowbray says Rovers have ‘moved on’ from their pursuit of Charlton Athletic defender Patrick Bauer after being told the German is not for sale.

Rovers have seen bids knocked back for the central defender who is in to the final 12 months of his current deal.

Bauer posted on social media that he wouldn’t be renewing his contract at The Valley, a decision Charlton boss Lee Bowyer felt was ‘badly advised’.

Bowyer has been firm in his stance that Bauer isn’t for sale, despite his contract situation, with the club said to be holding out for £2m for his services.

Mowbray is in the market for a new central defender, but admits Bauer isn’t their sole target in that position.

And he understands the Addicks' position, having taken a similar strong stance over interest in his players last summer.

Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I have spoken to Lee and if he (Bauer) is not for sale then he’s not for sale.

“We move on and we have other targets as I’ve been saying and they are being pursued at the moment.

“That’s fine, that’s okay, we did a similar thing when other clubs tried to sign some of our players last season.

“That’s football. You’re allowed to bid for footballers and they’re allowed to say no.

“We have to move on, that’s what we have done and we will try and strengthen in all departments that we feel need strengthening.”
