NICK Pope has undergone surgery on his dislocated shoulder but Sean Dyche is refusing to put a timeframe on his return to action.

Dyche confirmed the specialist was pleased with the operation on the 24-year-old.

But with Pope absent and tomorrow's Europa League second qualifying round second leg tie with Aberdeen likely to come too soon for Tom Heaton, Anders Lindegaard is set for his start for the club.

Burnley have also asked UEFA for permission to add another goalkeeper to their squad, which is likely to be fourth choice Adam Legzdins, although Dyche hasn't ruled out entering the transfer market to sign another goalkeeper.

But on Pope, the Clarets chief said: “Popey’s had the op, so far it’s pleasing news in the sense the specialist was happy with what he found and what’s been done.

He was just really pleased, it was as clean as he could have hoped for, so good news on that.

“I haven’t spoken to him yet because he was still recovering, but I’ll speak to him later.”

Asked whether tomorrow night was too soon for Heaton, Dyche admitted: “Probably. We’ll make a judgement call, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Lindegaard has shaken off a thigh problem to be fit to face the Dons and Legzdins is likely to be on the bench if UEFA agree to Burnley's request, otherwise 18-year-old Adam Bruce could be amongst the substitutes.

The Clarets have also been linked with a move for Southampton's Fraser Forster in recent days as cover.

Asked about the possibility of signing another goalkeeper, Dyche said: "It’s something we’re aware of. We’re always open minded to add the group if we can, whatever department that’s in, that’s an ongoing process. If we think we can increase the competition levels, then we’ll look at it.

"But you need to get the right ones in, we attempt not to bring people in for the sake of it, we want people who can affect the group and/or mature into the group and develop with us."
