Rovers boss Tony Mowbray is willing to hold out for his long-term targets and insists there is money available to strengthen his squad.

Mowbray admits the supporters are yet to see the evidence of the club’s ability to bring in cash signings with just three new faces through the door. But the Lancashire Telegraph understands seven figure deals for new recruits have been earmarked.

Rovers are hopeful of eclipsing the the £750,000 paid for Bradley Dack last summer before the transfer window closes on August 9, or secure loan deals before August 31 which could then become permanent deals in January.

Mowbray said: “The evidence is not there yet for our supporters because we have not yet gone and splashed the cash. That’s been difficult to do and I’ve spoken about why with the World Cup.

“If the right player at the right number comes along that can help our club move forward then we are in the market to improve the football club.”

Mowbray made Chelsea youngster Kasey Palmer his third signing of the window when joined on a season-long loan deal.

The boss says he is still looking in to bring in a further four new faces, and said he is ‘very confident’ of them coming to fruition.

“Some deals trigger off others,” Mowbray said.

“We are trying to get the ones we want, the ones we’ve identified, that’s why we put a recruitment department together to work on, to study to look at these players so we target them and go for them.

“Along the lines some of them have fallen away and gone to clubs for huge fees so we have moved to the next target on the list.

“That’s the way we’re working. We’re are stuck on the players that we want to sign, if they fall away we move on to the next one.

“But I think it’s right while the window is open to get the players you want because then there’s no excuses, you pick the players, you pick the team, you have to try and win with those players.

“We’re working hard behind the scenes, the phones have been ringing, we’ve been talking to clubs and trying to get deals done.

“I would hope we can get the deals we want done in the next couple of weeks and go to battle with them and see how far we can go with them this season.”

Rovers are understood to still be keen on a new goalkeeper to challenge David Raya, while a central defender is on the wishlist.

But the priority remains attacking options, with Mowbray keen to create competition in all areas of the field.

He added: “I would say probably four players just to create some real competition that gives me real headaches to be honest on who to leave out of the 18.

“I’ve said to them that’s football, that’s the competitive world we’re in if we’re trying to move the club forward.

“It’s not that the gaffer doesn’t like you on any given day, it’s because this is the team and this is the bench and sometimes you have to sit on the bench or in the stands and next week you might be the main man.

“That’s what we have to try and do, at the moment we’re a bit away from that.

“When I look at my board now the 18 who are travelling to Ipswich are virtually picking themselves but I do want to get to a point where I’ve got some major problems on leaving out some players who are working really hard and probably deserve to be in the squad but can’t make it because there is better quality in front of them.”
