Tony Mowbray took little time in praising the qualities of Rovers' new recruit.

Palmer joined Rovers on a season long loan from Chelsea in a welcome addition to Mowbray’s forward options.

And the boss is looking forward to working with the 21-year-old who has enjoyed successful spells with Huddersfield Town and Derby County in the last two seasons.

On what Palmer will bring to the squad, Mowbray said: “I’m delighted he’s here.

“He’ll help our team with his creativity, his technical ability, his speed.

“Anywhere in the top four positions he can play. He can even play central midfield and travel with the ball from there.

“He is very versatile and technically he will give us a great option.

“We have to get him up to speed. He’s not had much game time with the new Chelsea manager, but that will happen pretty quickly I’m sure.

“I’m looking forward to working with him, looking forward to bringing him into our group and looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the team.”

Palmer becomes Rovers’ third summer signing, following midfield duo Jacob Davenport and Joe Rothwell.

And Mowbray added: “I’m trying to loosen the burden on Bradley Dack, Danny Graham, Dominic Samuel, those sort of players.

“They need some help and after losing Adam Armstrong, Jack Payne, Harry Chapman, we have really lost a lot of attacking minding players.

“Kasey is a player I have liked for the last few years. I’m delighted to have finally brought him here.

“It’s a deal that’s taken a bit of time with him going off to Australia with Chelsea, despite him not getting any game time.”

Palmer played 27 times for Huddersfield in their promotion campaign of 2016/17, scoring five times, including the opening goal in the 1-1 draw at Ewood Park in December 2016.

He featured 16 times for Derby in the second half of last season as they were beaten in the play-off semi-finals, and Mowbray told the club website: “Importantly he knows what the top end of the Championship is about having been with Huddersfield and at Derby.

“He knows the expectation of having to win games and that’s the expectation we’ll have here. Hopefully he will thrive off that.”
