ABERDEEN boss Derek McInnes believes the Europa League tie with Burnley is far from over after a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie on Thursday night.

Sam Vokes' late leveller means it is advantage Burnley ahead of next week's return but McInnes feels there were plenty for reasons of optimism from his side in their home leg.

He said: "There is a feeling that we can score down there, we had enough good moments to suggest that could be the case and if we score down there then it is game on."

Aberdeen led thanks to Gary Mackay-Steven's controversial penalty before sub Vokes equalised.

And McInnes felt the capacity crowd were treated to an entertaining spectacle.

He added: "For the first competitive game of the season for both teams I thought it was a really competitive game played at a rapid tempo.

"Credit goes to both sets of players. The game was treated in the nature that it should be.

"I thought my players started brightly with some really good moments and we fed off the crowd.

"We got the first goal, deservedly so I thought as we were asking the question.

"In the second half I thought Burnley were very good, you see the level of the opponent when someone like Vokes can come on to the pitch and score a goal and have that impact.

"We ran out of legs a wee bit, in Europe in that first game it is difficult to sustain the energy levels.

"No one can say that Burnley didn’t deserve their equaliser, they moved the ball better in the second half and got into good areas.

"The competitive side of their team came out in the second half."
