HOLLY Bradshaw won gold and Sophie Hitchon picked up a silver medal at the inaugural Athletics World Cup at the London Stadium.

Bradshaw achieved a season’s best clearance of 4.75m to win the pole vault while Hitchon threw 73.48m to finish second behind Poland’s Olympic champion Anita Wlodarczyk who took victory with 78.74m.

While Bradshaw missed out on a British record, the 26-year old from Chorley says she is finding form going in to European Champions and added that she loved the format of the new competition.

“It’s a different event, it takes me back to my roots when I used to compete for Blackburn Harriers when you used to collect points,” said Bradshaw who picked up the maximum eight points for Great Britain.

“I kind of wanted to go over 1.82m which would have been a British record.

“But for me at the minute I am building nicely towards the European Championships.”

Burnley’s Hitchon, still coming to terms with a new technique, earned seven points by coming second.

Great Britain finished third overall as the United States took the win ahead of Poland.
