Dominic Samuel and Paul Downing are set to feature for Rovers in the friendly at Port Vale having missed last weekend’s trip to Hibernian.

But no decision has been taken on goalkeeper David Raya who also sat out the 2-0 win.

Rovers head to Vale Park for the second of six close season matches before the Championship campaign gets underway at Ipswich Town on August 4.

Today’s game means Rovers will play five times in the next two weeks, with their pre-season programme rounding off with a trip to neighbours Accrington Stanley on July 28.

Things are likely to step up with the Premier League double-header at Ewood Park as they face Liverpool and Everton on July 19 and July 26 respectively.

Mowbray named two a separate team for each half at Easter Road, but admits some players may be handed 60 minutes against the League Two side as Rovers build up the fitness of their senior names.

“We’ll give some players an hour at Port Vale. I don’t envisage anyone playing the 90 minutes, but after Port Vale the games come thick and fast really," Mowbray explained ahead of the 12.30pm kick-off.

“We have Saturday then Thursday, then Sunday, then Thursday and then Saturday. We’ll build up to play those 90 minutes before long, but at this stage they’re still working on that match fitness.

“I talked to David (Raya) and although I don’t expect him to start, we’ll look to get him some game time.

“He’ll be travelling there with the squad, will do the warm up and see how he does.

“Dominic (Samuel) will definitely get game time and Paul (Downing) will get game time. They will both be on the pitch having trained fully this week.

“The selection of the team will be reflective of who’s done what work this week and who has a knock or two."
