We asked our Rovers fans' jury whether Craig Conway should be offered a new contract.

Now this is a difficult conundrum. I've seen Craig when he has been unplayable and I've not seen him when he all but disappears.

There's no doubting his skill and ability but he is no spring chicken as he turned 33 today. Given the position he plays, pace and prime fitness are important.

Will he be able to cope with the rigours of the Championship when he couldn't be guaranteed a regular place in Division 1?

I'm afraid the signs are not particularly positive for a player who has been a tremendous asset to the club.

Craig Conway has been an excellent servant in his time with us and has performed consistently well to a good standard despite the turmoil around the club.

He has struggled with injuries this year and on his return has not demanded an automatic place in the first eleven.

A year older and a division harder, I don't see Craig Conway as a step forward and to be competitive, we may also need to be ruthless.

If indeed Tony Mowbray is of the same thinking then Craig Conway will leave with nothing but admiration from the Rovers fans.

Craig Conway has been a great servant for Rovers since joining at the start of 2014. You can tell he is someone who has, and always will, care about the club. A consummate professional and a role model. But unfortunately there isn't room for sentiment in football.

The winger has struggled to make a big impact this season, failing to register an assist in 19 league starts.

He was only a bit part player last season, too and dropping down into League One, I expected him to come back to the fore. But he has been less effective. Now after his latest injury, a broken metatarsal, I question whether he will be able to make a full recovery and cope with the demands of Championship football once again.

The Conway I will always remember is the one who would give Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede endless crosses. Sadly he is no longer that same player.

If he is to leave the club this summer, and the decision has already been made, he deserves a proper send off.
