Tony Mowbray is certainly not getting carried away by Rovers’ promotion from League One.

The Ewood chief steered the club back to the Championship at the first attempt 11 months after relegation on the final day at Brentford.

The Rovers boss agreed to stay on at Ewood Park, and also signed a new two year contract, after productive meetings with owners Venky’s in India last summer.

But despite securing promotion with two games to spare, Mowbray isn’t judging it as one of the biggest achievements in his career, believing it has to be the start of a Rovers rise.

Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph: “From my point of view, it’s just my personality, I don’t get carried away with anything.

“If we had got promoted to the Premier League the other night I would be the happiest man in the world going into the best league in the world.

“All we have achieved is getting promoted out of League One.

“That doesn’t rank that highly in my list of personal achievements.”

He added: “Blackburn Rovers shouldn’t be in League One so while the achievement is great, it’s not high on my achievement list because I expect it.”

Rovers went on two long unbeaten runs of 18 games and then 14 matches following a defeat to Plymouth in February, to help secure promotion thanks to a strong second half of the campaign.

But after managing in the top flight in England and Scotland, as well in Europe, coupled with his achievements as a player, Mowbray admits promotion from League One with Rovers doesn’t rank highly.

But he says that is down to his expectations for a club he recalls playing against when they were in the top-flight.  And he wants to help rebuild Rovers to its former glories.

The Rovers chief explained: “When I go home and see my children, I go in to my study and see what awards I have won, doing this humbly, I have won manager of the year a couple of times, manager of the month, whatever it might be from my playing career, bottles of champagne from being man of the match in 1984 which are unopened, the picture of me holding up the Championship title at QPR to the supporters, it makes me feel proud.

“That was 10 years ago and we were going to the Premier League to play Manchester United and that made me proud and you look forward to that fixture list and you’re playing Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal.

“That’s what I want for this club, then you feel a pride.”
